Periodontal Disease Affects More People Than You May Think!

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly half the people living in the United States have some level of periodontal (gum) disease. This is often a surprise to patients at our office who worry that they are in the minority. After we discover the presence of gum disease and treat the condition, we will recommend that you start making special periodontal maintenance appointments every three or four months. These appointments allow us to monitor your periodontal health and address any areas of recurring active infection. During your periodontal maintenance treatments, the areas affected by gum disease will receive special attention to help manage the condition and prevent it from progressing.

Scaling and Root Planing

Sometimes abbreviated as SRP, scaling and root planing allows us to remove plaque and calculus from the roots of the teeth without surgical intervention. At our office in Dickson, TN, we use the most modern, proven methods for scaling and root planing. To ensure your comfort during this treatment, you will be given the correct type of anesthetic or sedative for your needs.

Laser Gum Surgery and Laser Gingivectomies

If your gum disease has progressed to a level where the soft tissues are being destroyed, we may suggest that you undergo some type of laser gum surgery or laser gingivectomy. Our dental lasers can be set to remove all diseased or damaged gum tissues, allowing healthy tissues to heal. The American Dental Association supports the use of all dental lasers that have received clearance from the FDA*.

Ridge Augmentation and Preservation

Periodontal disease can affect the look of the gum line due to systematic breakdown of the soft tissues and bone. Ridge augmentation and preservation surgeries can give you a healthier, more natural smile.

Sinus Lift

If your gum disease has affected your upper molars, a sinus lift can assist in slowing down the rate of deterioration. Sinus lifts are performed at our office, and are aimed at helping you keep your teeth or prepare for dental implant placement in these regions of the mouth.
